Don’t ask me why or how but I thought it would be fun to do monthly themes here on the blog. What exactly does that mean? It means that each month of the year I will pick a theme to focus some special attention on. It may be a genre, it may be a series, or it may just be something completely random. I have only just started planning things out for the rest of 2015 and I just want to have some fun and see where this goes.
June is here and you know what that means; summer! For this first month I decided to go a different route than the regular poolside reads. I’m kinda obsessed with Lana del Rey so of course I used her song title to help me out with this month’s theme: tearjerkers!

I’ve been talking about Sunday Sadness a lot this week. That feeling that you are sad to have to go back to work. However, as a teacher, I definitely don’t understand summer sadness. I can’t wait!

I do monthly themes too! I love it. It’s a great way to explor a genre or specific type of books that I might not otherwise read a lot of. Your first topic sounds really interesting, although as we talked about at BEA I’m not a big fan of super sad reads. Hope you enjoy!

Personally, I do enjoy tearjerkers because that means the book was pretty darn good. My friends who read The Fault in Our Stars all cried when they read it, but when I did I did not. Now, that may be partly due to the fact that twitter spoiled it for me. John Green’s writing have a love/hate relationship so that was another part to it. All the Bright Places and I’ll Give You the Sun are two examples of books that made me cry. They were well-written and I felt like I was experiencing the events right along with each of the characters.
Tear jerkers are the best! It’s like a release of emotions that get pent up. ??

It depends on my mood. Sometimes you just feel like something light and airy and you want to laugh. Other times, you want something that will just take you and through you around (emotionally) a little bit.
I am currently into fantasy novels lately, but I love tearjerkers once in a while. Like, I just read an intense fantasy book/series, I want to lighten up my mood with a contemporary. Whether it be something that is cry-worthy, or just something that is perfect for summer 🙂
