It just figures that the love of Lindsey Water’s life isn’t alive at all, but the grim reaper, complete with a dimpled smile and Scottish accent.
After transporting souls to heaven for the last 300 years, Aiden MacRae has all but given up on finding the one whose love will redeem him and allow him entry through the pearly gates.
Torn between her growing attraction to Aiden and heaven’s siren song, Lindsey must learn the hard way whether love really can transcend all boundaries.
Between is a breath of fresh air in the paranormal infested YA market. When I first started it I thought it was going to be just like so many other books with an angel falling in love with a human and circumstances keeping them apart. Nope! First off, there was no angel, just a Scottish grim reaper! What more do you need to know? =)
Lindsey Waters knew the night couldn’t go anywhere but downhill after her sort-of boyfriend Ravi told her he loved her. She never expected to die though! That is exactly what happens. She certainly never expected to be met “on the other side” by a grim reaper in a kilt with the hottest Scottish accent. Death just keeps surprising Lindsey especially when she falls in love with her grim reaper, Aiden MacRae. But they can’t be together? It’s impossible. Or is it?
Let me start by saying there is no boring part in this book. I was pulled in from the very first sentence and I kept sneaking in a few pages every free second I got. I didn’t know what was going to happen next and I was definitely surprised by a lot that happened. Also, there is time travel! I love it! It was like mixing an awesome historical fiction with a contemporary novel with a but of the paranormal. It has a little something for everyone.
My only issue with Between was the relationship of Lindsey and Aiden. They just automatically fell in love with each other. Lindsey died and all she wanted was to know more about Aiden and be with him. I found it very hard to believe. Sure I liked Aiden but I just don’t see how the relationship could have worked like that.
Overall, Between is a great book that I loved even with it’s minor flaws. I loved the fact that it was actually about a dead girl and that it addressed the belief of heaven and hell and God. It’s not something you see a lot of in YA and I think it was brilliantly done!
First line: Ravi’s lips were soft and familiar against mine, but my mind was elsewhere.
