In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.
When Kate Mercier’s parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life–and memories–behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.
Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate’s guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he’s a revenant–an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.
Amy Plum’s debut novel, Die For Me, is a wonderful, unique new story for the YA paranormal market. At first I was a bit skeptical but Kate and Vincent’s story drew me in and I couldn’t stop reading.
Kate Mercier is just managing to get by since the death of her parents and her move to Paris with her sister, Georgia. She spends most of her time holed up in her bedroom until her sister convinces her that she has to get out. Kate agrees and that is when she meets Vincent. Vincent is the most gorgeous guy Kate has ever met so she can’t understand why he is interested in her but he clearly is. As their relationship starts growing though Kate realizes that Vincent has some secrets and things aren’t quite as they seem.
Kate annoyed me in the beginning but I quickly grew to like her. At first she seemed a little mopey but it was understandable. Then when she met Vincent she seemed a little obsessed. I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about that but eventually she calmed down and I really liked her. Especially at the end but I won’t go into details about that. Vincent was sexy and mysterious and FRENCH! Boy, he is a dream come true. I loved him and his story was fascinating. He was also super romantic!
The plot was fabulous. In the beginning I was so lost as to what Vincent was but when it was explained I was amazed. Amy Plum did a wonderful job creating a paranormal story with a whole new type of being. I love books that surprise me like this one did. And that ending was intense!
Overall, Die For Me is another wonderful debut for 2011 that I must recommend for paranormal lovers. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
