Short Story Saturday: Wee Willie Winkie by Leigh Fallon

Short Story Saturday was created by Lauren at 365 Days of Reading.  I can’t guarantee that I’ll post a review every Saturday but I will post one as often as I can!

I am currently reading Two And Twenty Dark Tales: Dark Retellings of Mother Goose Rhymes.

Author: Leigh Fallon
Anthology: Two And Twenty Dark Tales

Summary: Wee Willie Winkie is a dark retelling of the Mother Goose Rhyme of the same name.

My thoughts:  Wee Willie Winkie is one of the scarier stories in this collection.  It’s not your typical creepy story but it has a very haunting feel to it.  The setting, the characters, and the writing all give it that spooky air.  However, while I enjoyed the creepiness of it, I felt that it was a tad to short for me to truly love it.  I would have liked just a bit more to the story.

Overall, Wee Willie Winkie is one of the better short stories in this collection.  I will definitely be checking out more of Leigh Fallon’s work in the future.
