Blogger Interview: Marissa & Jasmine from Beneath the Moon and Stars

Today I have both Marissa and Jasmine, the masterminds behind the blog Beneath the Moon and Stars!

What are you like outside of blogging?

Marissa: When I’m not reading or blogging my life is pretty boring, actually. I do most of my school at home because I’m homeschooled. I go to church. I listen to music all the time. I watch TV. I make sure my siblings don’t kill each other. That’s about it.

Jasmine: Outside of blogging I’m always running around and very athletic

What made you decide to start your blog?

Marissa: Well, I’d been stalking some blogs for a while and I really liked the community. It seemed like a great group of people who did it because of their love of reading. So when Jasmine brought up the idea of making one I agreed. Once we realized how easy it would be to start one it just happened. I don’t think I could ever go back.

Jasmine: I started blogging because I had always talked to Marissa about books and saw tons of other blogs.

What is your best book blogging moment?

Marissa: That’s hard. I still freak out when an author replies to me on Twitter and there have been so many amazing moments at all the signings and conferences we’ve had the chance to go to since we started. But if I had to choose one it would be when we got our first review request. It was a surprising and completely new experience for me and it made me feel like I had gotten my foot into the door of the blogging world.

Jasmine: My best blogging moment was when I got an email about a publisher talking about me in their speech at BEA.

To help some of the newer bloggers: what have you found to be the best way to network and get your blog out there?

Marissa: Twitter. We get a lot of our audience from tweeting all our posts and sometimes the authors retweet them so that’s really helpful. Honestly as long as you have good, original content people will notice.

Jasmine: I would say the best way to network your blog is twitter. Being social really helps.

What book turned you on to YA?

Marissa: Twilight. Of course. I had always liked reading before but it wasn’t something that I did a lot. Then I read Twilight and absolutely loved it and it opened up a whole new world of wonderful books that I didn’t know existed. Now here I am.

Jasmine: Twilight turned me onto YA even though it isn’t even YA it turned me on to books in general

How many books do you own?

Marissa: At least 300 & only one bookshelf. It’s a mess.

Jasmine: I would say I own over 200 books

What are some blogs you recommend reading?

Marissa:

Aneeqah from My Not So Real Life-Her blog has really good content and her reviews are always honest. She’s also really nice and fun to talk to.

Monica from Cover Analysis-My Twitter is never lonely with her. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind and that shows in her reviews.

Karen from Teen Librarian’s Toolbox-Her posts are really interesting to read. I see her as like my momma blogger even she can’t possibly be old enough to be my mom.

Benji from The Non-Reluctant Reader-I wish I could steal his blog name and his real name is pretty cool to. Also He’s a guy which is the minority in the YA book blogging community so it’s cool to see his perspective on things.

Ren from Ren’s Rambles-I love her name and she is so nice.

I could go on. I love bloggers 🙂

Jasmine: Some of my favorite blogs are Cover Analysis, Once Upon A Twilight, and Millie D’s Words.

Favorites:

-Book of all time:

Marissa: I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to answer that question. Not because I don’t read any good ones but the opposite. I love nearly all of them.

Jasmine: Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck

-New release:

Marissa: Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout. It’s now one of my favorite second novels.

Jasmine: Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

-Genre:

Marissa: Anything YA but mainly Paranormal

Jasmine: Paranormal romance

-Place to Read:

Marissa: My bed with my blanket and life size stuffed white tiger. It’s the quietest place in my house which I like when I’m reading

source

Jasmine: In my bed.

-TV show:

Marissa: Vampire Diaries, Doctor Who or Friends.

Jasmine: Vampire Diaries

-Candy:

Marissa: Twizzlers

Jasmine: gummy worms

-Song:

Marissa: Same answer as my favorite book. I love music way too much to pick just one song. If I had to choose just one at random from the never ending list of songs that I could listen to all the time and never get tired of the one that pops into my head is She Will Be Love by Maroon 5.

Jasmine: Endlessly by The Cab
