My Latest Obsession is a post that I will be doing every now and then featuring something I’m obsessed with. It could be anything from a song to a cartoon character, it all just depends on my mood.
My latest obsession is the TV show The Originals! (Really, I think I’m just obsessed with TV.)

I’m a huge Vampire Diaries fan. I love that show. However, I wasn’t always a fan of the characters on the show, especially Klaus. When I heard that the original family would be getting a spin-off show, I was skeptical. I knew I’d watch it (mainly for Elijah and Rebekah) but I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do. I’m even starting to like Klaus!
The Originals can stand on it’s own. There is no need to watch The Vampire Diaries before watching The Originals although I would recommend it since I love it. The Originals has a cast that’s made up of some old faces (Klaus, Hayley, Elijah, Rebekah) and some new ones (Marcel, Cami, Davina). It’s a great mix and I love the new characters that they’ve introduced so far.
First up, there’s Marcel. He’s supremely sexy and definitely kind of scary. I want to hate him but there are times when I just can’t. There are flashbacks showing how he met Klaus, what his relationship is with Rebekah, and some other things. The flashbacks are really what make me like him. It will definitely be interesting to see how he went from orphaned boy to vampire king of New Orleans.
Then there is Davina. That girl is scary! She’s young and pretty but she’s also a super powerful witch. She has tons of power and she’s not afraid to use it. She’s also got a bit of an attitude which I love about her. Deep down she’s just a teenage girl who has been sheltered for far too long and just wants to live her life. I look forward to seeing how she handles the introduction of the original vampires.
As for the old cast, Rebekah is just as badass as ever, Elijah is the perfect gentleman, Klaus is still a murderous lunatic (but I’m okay with that), and Hayley is getting better. I’m not sure how I feel about her yet but she’s not as obnoxious as she was in The Vampire Diaries. It’s an improvement.
The plot is mysterious and very intriguing. I never know what’s going to happen. I love that about The Originals. To be honest, things in The Vampire Diaries have gotten a little predictable. That is so not the case with The Originals. Each episode seems to have a new twist and I’m eager to see how every last detail is going to tie together.

One of the reasons I could bear to keep watching TVD was because of the Originals. I love Klaus 😀 (totally ship him with Caroline!) So yeay, I love the show so far!
Looooove the Originals! As much as I love Klaus, I’m happy he has his own show because I didn’t want him to end up with Caroline…..as I want her to end up with Stefan, haha. But definitely love this show and my friends that never watched TVD watch it and love it too!

I watched the first episode and didn’t mind it, though I feel like I have TV coming out of my ears. I have way too much to watch so was considering dropping this. Though, I might just save up the rest of the season for the summer, which I tend to do. By the time I finish the previous year’s shows they come back on again!
I am really liking The Originals and am very curious how things will develop!! I love Klaus and Elijah
I’m not much of a TV fan, but I did love the Vampire Diaries books… I’ll have to check it out, if it’s on Netflix that is.
I love this show! It’s mostly because of Klaus and Elijah. And Davina, wow that is one scary chick!
I’m thinking of jumping ship from TVD actually. I like The Originals so much more. Although I mourn that Klaroline isn’t going to happen, though I’m happy about the potential Stephan/Caroline.

I watched the first episode and was definitely intrigued. I have the last three (well, 4 now) episodes sitting on my DVR. I need to pick a night to have a marathon and get caught up. I love The Vampire Diaries, and can see this show being a new fave of mine. Thanks for sharing!
I am also very skeptical about the whole idea of there being a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, especially considering that The Vampire Diaries is still on the air. I mean, how do the actors in both shows have time to film both? Is TVD in its final season or something? (Clearly I should do my research on this.) All that being said, I’ll probably watch this eventually. I am still only on the fourth season of TVD, but once I’m all the way caught up, I’ll start The Originals as well. CW series are just too addictive not to watch, especially when I already have a sense of familiarity with at least some of the cast. 🙂
I am obsessed with The Originals too! I really hope Caroline is in this show though, i just love the Klaus and Caroline pairing!
I too love this show! I’m a huge fan of TVD, but I always found the Originals to be a mysterious clan all their own, someone we never really had full access to. Now we know all their secrets and they still surprise us 🙂

I love the originals… I love Hayley and Elijah.. This tv show so far is outstanding and unpredictable.. And I can’t wait to see how the baby comes out to look like… ❤️
